Who We Are‎ > ‎

Our History

HAPC was founded in 1977 through a joint effort of clergy, medical professionals and local congregations. We were instrumental in establishing chaplaincy services in Huntsville Hospital and other settings. We also helped to establish The Vine Pastoral Counseling Center, The Council on Faith and Mental Illness, the North Alabama Health Ministries and Parish Nursing Project, the Madison County Coalition for Healthy Marriages, and the Chaplains United Regional Network. We have sponsored Project Dialogue, a community forum for clergy and mental health professionals; Ministry and Medicine, a forum for clergy and physicians; the annual Pastoral Care/Congregational Leadership Day. We have also offered networking and co-ordination in pastoral/spiritual responses to local emergencies and collaborated with other partners in offering Clinical Pastoral Education opportunities in north Alabama.
