1. Since 1977, HAPC has been promoting and encouraging chaplaincy in our community. Our Executive Director, the Rev. Carl Malm, facilitates a monthly support group for chaplains. Our Chaplaincy Committee offers occasional educational programs both for experienced and prospective chaplains. We offered a program in January and are planning another one for September.
2. For twenty years, the School of Applied Ministry has been offering three educational programs a year for all who provide spiritual care, including Stephen Ministers, Ministers of Communion, Elders, Deacons, Pastors and Congregational Nurses. Our next SAM class will be "The Spiritual Care of Family Care Givers for Those with Physical or Cognitive Decline or Mental Illness" on September 12.
3. Through the Center for Loss, Grief and Change, Rev. Malm offers educational programs about loss and grief and spiritual care as well as individual grief consultations. He facilitates a  grief support group each Tuesday at 3:00 at Hope Presbyterian Church.
4. Through Diakonia Ministries, the Rev. Frank Broyles provides chaplaincy for the marginalized who are often neglected in spiritual care.
5. The Council on Faith and Mental Illness provides chaplaincy for the seriously and persistently mentally ill and encourages churches to be more understanding and accepting of those with serious mental illness. We also offer a monthly Pastor/Psychologist Dialogue with Dr. Roger Rinn and Dr. Nikki Heidelbach.
6. HAPC also promotes and encourages Health Ministries and Congregational Nursing and offers occasional educational programs.
7. In co-operation with Brookdale Jones Farm, HAPC offers occasional Pastors' Lunch and Learns. On October 10, the Rev. Christie Ashton of Hope Presbyterian Church will be speaking on "What I Did Not Learn in Seminary."
8. HAPC has helped to co-ordinate the response of the spiritual community to local and area disasters.
